Simone and swimming pool = bad idea
Maybe we aren’t as prepared to be parents as we thought because introducing our dog to swimming was a total disaster. Today, we were laying by the pool when we decided to see if Simone would paddle if we held her above the water. She did, so then we tried to see if she would swim in the pool - something we have never tried with her before.
She swam a little bit but immediately wanted to get out. Chris thought she looked so funny, so he asked me to put her in again but take her to the middle of the pool so he could video it. As you are about to see, this did not go over too well.
Here is what was going through my head:
I thought she seemed to begin sinking, not swimming. I was scared she would drown, her head just wasn’t very far above the surface so I went to pick her up. She flailed around crazily, and scratched the heck out of my arms and chest.
What the video doesn’t show is that I dumped a frantic Simone out of the pool and she began running around like a maniac, and then she went straight for the yard which is pretty much dirt with pine needles on top of it. She decided to roll around face first in the dirt.
This was the result:
Anyway, we had a huge mess on our hands and had to get out the hose to try and wash her off. She is currently drying in the bathroom but she has all these little pine needle pieces stuck in her fur. Chris will be going to get a good doggy brush so we can try to clean her up better once she dries.
