Simone and swimming pool = bad idea

posted on Monday, May 13th, 2008 under Uncategorized |

Maybe we aren’t as prepared to be parents as we thought because introducing our dog to swimming was a total disaster. Today, we were laying by the pool when we decided to see if Simone would paddle if we held her above the water. She did, so then we tried to see if she would swim in the pool - something we have never tried with her before.

She swam a little bit but immediately wanted to get out. Chris thought she looked so funny, so he asked me to put her in again but take her to the middle of the pool so he could video it. As you are about to see, this did not go over too well.

Here is what was going through my head:

I thought she seemed to begin sinking, not swimming. I was scared she would drown, her head just wasn’t very far above the surface so I went to pick her up. She flailed around crazily, and scratched the heck out of my arms and chest.

What the video doesn’t show is that I dumped a frantic Simone out of the pool and she began running around like a maniac, and then she went straight for the yard which is pretty much dirt with pine needles on top of it. She decided to roll around face first in the dirt.

This was the result:

Anyway, we had a huge mess on our hands and had to get out the hose to try and wash her off. She is currently drying in the bathroom but she has all these little pine needle pieces stuck in her fur. Chris will be going to get a good doggy brush so we can try to clean her up better once she dries.

Congratulations Veronica and Maarten!!!!!!!!

Hurray! I am sooooo happy for you two! I can’t believe we’ll be having babies almost at the same time! Our fetuses are international friends! In 2 or 3 years we are so bringing Baby Boy Ennis to visit the THREE of you!

We love you guys and are really, really thrilled!

Happy mommy day!

To all the mommies and mommies-to-be, have a wonderful day. I am so blessed to not only have a great mom, but an equally great mother in law. Our son will be really lucky to have great grandmothers on both sides! And this time next year, I’ll have been a mom for nearly 7 months! That is hard to believe!

Have a great day, we’re at Hilton Head this week relaxing at the beach. It’s perfect!

More of my stupid moments, plus an update

I went to pick out Mother’s Day cards for our moms and my grandmother the other day. There was not a great selection of grandmother cards, so I tried to spend some time finding the prettiest one of what they offered. I finally settled on one that I thought was the nicest.

Yesterday, I went to address it and realized I had gotten a card for a GODMOTHER instead. I don’t even have a godmother. Augh. Am I going blind?

Here is a little update. I think karma caught up to the person who inspired the last item in my annoyances post from last week. Sorry to be so cryptic, but that is all I can say.

Crib bedding search

posted on Monday, May 6th, 2008 under Uncategorized |

So now that we know for sure what we are having, I am trying to narrow down my bedding search. If it were a girl, I knew exactly what I was going to do - a modern room with a Paris theme. (Think white walls with a hot pink stripe across the middle, a big black Eiffel Tower wall adhesive on the wall and black crib with cute black, white and pink bedding. Shut up, it would be cute - I swear!)

Since that won’t work for a boy for obvious reasons, I am thinking simple, modern and colorful. This bedding is what I keep coming back to, I just love it:

Now, i just need to settle on a crib. The modern ones are too pricey for the most part. Here is the one I am loving, though:

It is a lifetime crib, but it’s not cheap. I really like the clean lines, though, and the dresser is really nice. We’ll see.

Oh, boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, Chris won’t be outnumbered in the house anymore because we’re having a BOY!!!

This video does have sound.

I honestly thought all along we were having a girl, but I had a dream last week about the ultrasound, and in that dream, we found out were having a boy. At least my subconscious was right!! Whee! Now I can go buy stuff for him!! I need comments! Won’t you please leave me one? Pretty please …

Childbirth class, session 5

This is all you need to know about our final childbirth class:

This is my friend Lisa’s husband, Mat. I took this with a crappy camera phone, sorry its so blurry! Chris was still out of town, so Mat was brave and donned the 30-pound empathy belly. All the guys who tried it wanted it off really fast! I told Chris that he will be wearing that belly at some point during my pregnancy — you just wait!

Happy night

Chris finally came home yesterday after being out of town for 11 days.

The animals are so happy to have him back, even the fickle Siamese, Sasha. Simone is nestled at my feet contentedly sighing; Chloe “the bear” is snoozing on the media stand; Maggie is off somewhere after giving me her once-a-month purring/cuddle session and Sasha is sleeping on the remote control.

The hubby is typing away on his laptop within arm’s reach and our bellies are full from Italian take-out. Baby Ennis is doing calisthenics in the tummy.

All is good tonight.
