Blast from the past

Chris’ mom, Rita, came over this weekend bearing baby gifts for Reed. She got him a pair of stuffed hugging frogs, four outfits and several teething toys, rattles and bath toys. She also brought some really cute stuff from when Chris was a baby. This stuff was pristine and perfectly preserved. I cannot believe it was 32 years old.

Look at these cute booties (which were in their original case). Chris actually wore these on special occassions but they looked brand new:

And this bib, which he wore, shows that Chris was an Auburn Tigers fan since birth! War Eagle!

She also brought me these blankets that have never even been opened. I can’t believe she saved all of this!

She had several of Chris’ sleeping gowns that she also brought me, that could come in handy too. I was just so impressed she had saved all of this and it was in such great shape. I hear there is a Christmas outfit just waiting to be brought out too!

Reed’s namesake

This is Pa, aka Reed Brown, from Christmas a few years ago. I admittedly have a huge affection for older men but Pa is the cutest thing ever. Just look as his happy smile and check out his cap! How cool is he?

Seriously, I am so lucky to have a grandfather figure in my life since both of my grandfathers have passed away. He is an incredible man, a World War II vet and a life-long farmer who has a great sense of humor and a very calm, cool and collected demeanor. I just hope our little Reed will get to know Pa and have some of his traits, I have a feeling they will be very good buddies.

Doing the Cabbage Patch …

YES!!! I passed my gestational diabetes test! Whoo-wee! I am doing a little happy dance while reaching for a celebratory chocolate chip cookie!

Let them eat steak

I am about to go have a giant steak, a huge baked potato and a massive salad so I can gear up for what will be a 15 hour fast. I have been eating about every 2 hours when I am awake, so this truly is going to be a challenge for me! Wish me luck that I will pass the dreaded test tomorrow!

I’m a failure

I failed the one hour gestational diabetes test by a few points. That means on Wednesday, I have to take a three hour test and fast the 12 hours prior.

I am not looking forward to it for several reasons - I am swamped at work and I can’t really afford to miss more time; the first drink was awful and made me sick and the nurse said this drink would be worse; I have to get my blood drawn four times during three hours; I can hardly get out of bed without eating something and I am not looking forward to fasting because I have a feeling I am going to pass out cold there in the office.

I know, I know, I am such a baby, but I am really, really dreading this. Sniffle. Sob. Pout.

Oh, yeah

We’re naming him Reed, after Chris’ grandfather. We’ll see you in September, little man.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention, Reed’s middle name will be Howard. Gotta let my maiden name live on somehow!

Congratulations Lisa and Mat!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yay! Lisa and Mat had their baby, just one week early. Berrin James was born on July 5, and is happy and healthy and so is mom. He is just perfect, with a full head of brown hair, a precious nose and huge hands and feet! Lisa, although still in some pain while recovering from an emergency c-section, looked radiant and Mat seemed to be holding up well too. Such a beautiful, sweet family — it’s a true blessing.

Seriously, how cute are they?

I am so excited for them, but feel a little more “alone” now that my pregnancy buddy has now moved on to the mommy stage and I still have about 80 days left. It was so nice having someone to commiserate with, look at baby stuff, visit daycares and complain about weird symptoms too. Now, I’ll be taking close notes to try and learn as much as I can about being a mommy from her the next couple months.

Cover up

I got this as a baby gift this week. It is supposed to go over the baby’s “stuff” to impede the pesky old pee-in-the-eye trick. I think it’s totally hysterical, but I doubt it would work all that well!

Think it would stay on a rambuncious little baby boy?

Lookie at my new pretty!

So I had a gift card for Amazon.com and I decided to splurge a little bit and get my dream diaper bag that I have been eyeing for a couple months now. Isn’t she a beauty? It has a detachable clutch and stroller straps and it doesn’t look like a diaper bag! I am in lurve!!!
