Putting it all in perspective

Well, this morning started out a little rough, but by this afternoon I have gotten a whole new perspective on things. We had an OB appointment to go over the ultrasound results from two days ago. I think I have mentioned that we have been watching Baby Reed’s kidneys because they are a bit enlarged. Well, today the OB said that his kidneys had gotten larger since the last ultrasound earlier this month, and some other “plumbing” is being affected. That was a bit worrisome to me.

When she mentioned calling the pediatric urologic surgeon to see if we needed to induce in order to deal with the kidney situation, that really got me concerned. And to think I was worried about having to go two more weeks without a baby just a few days ago!

After a few hours of waiting to hear back from my OB once she talked to the surgeon, she called to say that we did not need to induce because of the kidneys, and that the situation is nothing to be overly concerned with or alarmed about. We can deal with his kidneys once he is here, whenever that is. I have to say, that really made me feel a lot better and I am at peace with the fact that he may be camping out a little bit longer. As long as he is OK, then I have no reason to complain.

So, I am going to do my best not to whine and moan about being uncomfortable for a little while longer. I am so incredibly lucky to work for one of the best Children’s Hospitals in the country, live only a mile from it and have immediate access to the specialists. I actually know and was able to hand pick the pediatric urologic surgeon who will be taking care of Reed, and he called me personally just a few minutes ago to reiterate that I should not be worried.

So many other families have to travel for hundreds of miles to get the care that Baby Reed will be able to get so easily. And my confidence that they’ll be able to take care of any issue he may have is very high, so I am not going to worry about the small stuff.
