Whoo! Whoo! The nursery is almost done — just need to paint and frame and hang the prints. I’ll post pictures when we get totally done next weekend!

Make room for baby

posted on Monday, May 31st, 2008 under Pregnancy |

This will be a busy weekend. The crib set is in, so we gotta go pick it up. We will be cleaning out the future nursery and moving things to the shed. But, Chris and his mom have to clean out the shed first — so a trip to the dump is in order.

Oh yeah, I think we have a least two foxes living under the shed. Chris saw them in the backyard last night when he was grilling. So weird, we live in the city!

Also in is the bedding, which is just as cute in person, and the four doggie prints from Etsy. I need to go pick up four silver frames for the prints so we can hang them soon.

We decided to paint the room a light blue, which will match the bedding and be a nice contrast to the orange chair. Not sure if we’ll get to that this weekend.

But it’s exciting, and preparing Baby Ennis’ own space sure makes it even more real!

Bittersweet sympathy

posted on Monday, May 31st, 2008 under Pregnancy |

Chris has really been feeling my pain lately — literally. Looks like he has begun to feel some sympathy pains — bad back pain in the same area I had been having it and he has also put on some weight since I got pregnant.

It’s not funny, especially when we are fighting over the heating pad.

And they call it puppy love

My dog, Simone, is a very affectionate lap dog. She has always been her momma’s girl, but the more pregnant I get, the more attached she has become. She must be with me always. I can’t so much as go to the ladies’ room without her following me in there and watching me with those little soft brown eyes. I cannot imagine why me doing my business is of critical need of her attendance, but it is apparently. Anything I do, she is there. And she usually wants to be in my lap or at least touching me at all times. She has begun to rest her head on my bump (which is becoming a handy shelf for various items these days) a lot.

Everyone keeps asking me if they think Simone is going to adjust to the new baby ok. I just hope that she will be as obsessed with the baby as she is with us.

Nursery art possibility

I think we are going to buy four prints of this pup, who looks a lot like our Simone, and have them change out the background colors to match the nursery bedding. I think it will look really cute and can grow with our son… What do you think?

The print is from the Esty Store Studio1212.

Such a pain

posted on Monday, May 23rd, 2008 under Pregnancy |

I have had a really weird week. I had virtually no pain issues or funky symptoms while I was on vacation, but Monday morning back at work was not good.

My co-worker found me in the floor where I had laid down because I suddenly felt dizzy and light-headed after getting really hot, uncomfortable and dry-heaving while sitting at my desk. I take it was an alarming sight, because Carole, who is also a nurse and is not one to get phased by things, took off to administration to have them “stand by.” We were soon joined by two of the top nurses at the hospital and lovely Mr. Kendrick, our front desk greeter extraordinare who commandeered a wheelchair and got me down the Pediatric Emergency Department in no time.

There I was met with what seemed like a dozen nurses who checked all my vitals - normal - and they even wheeled in a little ultrasound machine to see if Baby Ennis was allright. There he was, heart beating just fine and moving around. I felt very silly being in the ED for children!

No clue what set me off. And then it happened again on Tuesday morning, so Chris took me to my OB to see what the heck was going on. That bloodwork came out normal too. Just going to chalk it up to crazy pregnancy symptoms…

Carole suggested I eat something before I get out of bed each morning and that seems to have helped, or my symptoms have mysteriously vanished.

No worries, they were replaced yesterday by a new symptom. The only way I can explain the pain is it feels like either I have been riding a jumpy horse for a realllllllllly long time or it feels like a day after a donkey kicked me square in the crotch. I think the technical term for it is round ligament pain, but I think my descriptions are more colorful, don’t you?

Anyway, the back and hip pain I have had before seems to be improving. I think I just have one session left with the physical therapist. Then I am going to try prenatal yoga, and if I am brave, maybe prenatal water aerobics. I just know the other mommies to be will be all cute and cellulite free, so I don’t know if I can handle the latter. Let’s just say when I got on the scale on Tuesday, I was not to happy to see my weight. Yeah, yeah, eating for two, I am supposed to gain weight, whatever. I still don’t like seeing those numbers increase SO much.

Oh, boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, Chris won’t be outnumbered in the house anymore because we’re having a BOY!!!

This video does have sound.

I honestly thought all along we were having a girl, but I had a dream last week about the ultrasound, and in that dream, we found out were having a boy. At least my subconscious was right!! Whee! Now I can go buy stuff for him!! I need comments! Won’t you please leave me one? Pretty please …

Ok, I guess you were expecting a different kind of belly shot, so here goes — my 16ish week bump:

So, I am getting a little something, but I still think I just look a bit chub and not really pregnant yet.

Childbirth class, session 2

posted on Monday, April 8th, 2008 under Pregnancy |

Last night was our second childbirth class. And it was a doozy. I think I must still be an immature 7th grader at heart because I had a hell of a time watching the two births on video. At first, it was just an animation, then Bam! without warning it got real. There’s the baby’s head popping right out of the mom, and oh wow, there goes a massive football sized placenta! Oh my God, they set the mutant-sized placenta beside the bed so mom could take a look. It was bigger than the baby! I began to dry heave at this point. I have to do THAT in 5 months? Oh there better be LOTS.OF.DRUGS. Meet me at the parking lot with drugs, people!

Then we saw another natural birth. She had a very, very supportive supportive husband, who was so supportive, he got down in a table position in the middle of the hospital hall to let her stretch. Then, she hung on to his back and they did this penguin waddle waltz down the hall. It was supposed to help loosen up the baby or something. To me, it looked just nuts and I cannot even imagine Chris doing any of that stuff. But I will say the husband was extremely supportive and I know Chris will be in his on way.

Which brings me to a funny nickname my co-worker/friend Nancy came up with for the baby. She said she was going to start calling our little fetus the “eBaby.” Which, is actually pretty fitting considering I am married to Mr. Internet. Another co-worker has apparently said Chris invented the Internet, along with Al Gore. I swear Chris will be live blogging or at least Twittering the birth of our first child. He better make sure that his laptop has good insurance because if he brings that thing in the delivery room, I may just toss it out the window!

Diaper search

posted on Monday, April 5th, 2008 under Pets, Pregnancy |

I’m currently searching for diapers. Not for my future child. For my cat.

My dear Sasha, a cat I have had for more than nine years, will not use her litter box anymore. In fact, she peed on the hardwood floor in what was supposed to be the nursery and now the whole room reeks of urine and there is a massive stain on the floor. Don’t know what we’re going to do about that.

Chris is not happy about this situation at all. Especially since Sasha has also peed on the carpet in our master bedroom and she poops right beside the litter box, but not in it. Poor Chris has to clean the litter box and pick up any stray poo while I am pregnant, so he is quite annoyed. He has mentioned her going to live with my parents but why on earth would they want to deal with her issues? He was worried that this could hurt the baby but our doctor said the baby would have to literally roll around in the pee and poo to suffer any ill effects.

I don’t blame him, but this is my dear cat, who has been with me through so much — my first roommate, several relationships, five moves and so much more. My cat who sleeps beside me every night. My cat who follows me around everywhere and gives me kitty kisses all the time. My neurotic, floor-pissing cat.

It has gotten so bad that she is now on kitty prozac and we have put in a cat phermone plug-in to encourage her to not be stressed out and to use the litter box. I don’t see how the cat is stressed out, but all the humans in this house are. The drugs and the phermones are not helping so far.

Anyway, I am at my wits end so I am searching the Web for cat diapers. If I have to diaper a baby and a cat all in the same day, I may just lose my mind.
