Leavin’ on a jet plane

posted on Monday, November 30th, 2008 under Uncategorized |

I am packing for Reed’s first plane ride on Monday evening. It is going to be interesting to see how he makes it, especially since he is getting his 2-month shots today before we leave. Eek! We are going to visit Auntie Carrie in Cocoa Beach, Florida for a few days. Fortunately, the flight there is practically empty, so if Reed is fussy, he’ll just be annoying a small amount of people.

Reading with daddy

We have received lots of really neat books as gifts and we are beginning to start reading them to Reed. Chris recently read the classic “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” Reed very much enjoys reading time!

Reed meets Reed

On Thanksgiving, Reed finally met his namesake, his great-grandfather Reed (aka Pa, Chris’ grandfather on his mom’s side). Pa was thrilled to meet his great-grandson and hold him. Soon they were having a great conversation involving a pony and a saddle. Pa keeps promising Reed a pony, and I am beginning to think he is not kidding!

We have lots to be thankful for this year — especially our little turkey!

Mirror, mirror

Reed is developing what I like to call a very healthy ego. He just loves to look at himself, and it really amuses him when he sees himself in the bathroom mirror.

Well that was a first (of many)

I was just changing Reed when I got a show akin to the Bellagio’s fountains in Vegas. It has been taking me a little longer to change him because he got the snip-snip (circumcision) on Thursday, and I have to put peroxide and then neosporin on his incision site. Well, before I could get the diaper on him, Reed decided to pee again, a dynamic spray that shot a good two to three feet in the air and right over his shoulder.

I guess I am lucky I didn’t get a face-full of pee … this time!

UPDATE: Umm, ok, he did it again - the very next day! I guess I will have to start using this.

We went to East Tennessee a few weekends ago so Reed could meet his great-grandmother. Here is a sweet picture of Mamaw and Reed:

Reed is beginning to smile and grin. I think he’s becoming a flirt.

Bittersweet weekend

On Saturday, my dear friend from college, Kristina, who lives in Birmingham, Ala., came to visit me and meet Reed. We had a great day Saturday catching up on old times and eating sushi.

This morning, I awoke early to sounds of my cat, Sasha, whom I have had for 11 years, howling. We found her near a large pool of blood, laying on her side, panting. She was cold and lifeless, barely breathing. Stina and I rushed her to the animal hospital where they tried to determine what was wrong. Her temperature was so low, it did not even register and they put her on oxygen while trying to warm her up. They are not sure what is wrong with her and are unsure of the prognosis. We hope to learn more soon.

A few hours before I woke up, Stina got a call from Sweden by her sister telling her that her grandmother was very ill. She left a day early to go back home in case she needs to travel to Sweden to be with her grandmother. All in all, today is panning out to be a terrible one. Chris and Reed are doing their best to cheer me up, and it is working. Just looking at my sweet little man makes me feel a lot better.

Please say a prayer for Sasha and Stina’s grandmother, that both will be comfortable.

UPDATE, Sunday afternoon

Just got the call I was dreading — Sasha died at the animal hospital. My heart is broken into a million pieces. I loved that cat like a person. I had her for 11 years. She was the sweetest kitty I ever had, and loved me the most. They have no idea what caused her to get so sick so quick or what caused her death. I am devastated.
