One more week

posted on Monday, December 29th, 2008 under Uncategorized |

Today is my last week of maternity leave. I cannot believe how quickly three months has passed. I’ve settled into a really comfortable routine with Reed and have enjoyed every second of our days together. I look forward to returning to my great job and awesome colleagues, but I am a little heartbroken about giving up my days with Reed. It will be difficult to let someone else have that time with him! He is growing so fast and changing so much each day. I just hope he saves his milestones for me!

A few milestones we’ve reached:
He has been sleeping through the night in his crib since Dec. 7. He has only woken up one night, sleeping less than at least 6 hours.
Twice he has woken up after sleeping all night with his head where he feet were/vice versa.
He has been turning onto his side since he was 7 weeks old.
He began having full babble conversations with himself and us about 2 weeks ago.
He began saying “hi” a few times a day since mid-December.
He started to laugh around 7 weeks.
He began studying his hands last week, although he has brought his hands to his face since about 4 weeks and has grasped his hands together since birth.

Little man

I am becoming obsessed with little outfits for Reed that look like regular clothes, as opposed to sleepers, etc. He still wears sleepers a lot, but I find myself wanting to dress him in outfits more and more. It’s more trouble to dress him in an outfit with all the buttons and layers, and putting things over the head and pulling up pants. A sleeper just requires a fast zip or snap up. But there is just something totally adorable about a baby in clothes that look like what an adult might be wearing, except for the ever-present bib, that is!

Below is what Reed wore today. The pic is blurry because I took it in a huge hurry. Today was busy! I took the little man to the office for a meeting at 9 a.m. and then ran errands all day, followed up by making a fool out of myself in a hip hop class at the Y. (Julie, you are going to regret inviting me to class. If I ever come back, you can pretend you don’t know me!)

Oh yeah, his shirt says “Genius.”

Berrin is Reed’s BFF. It’s sort of like an arranged marriage…Berrin is the 5 month old son of our friends Lisa and Mat. While we were pregnant, Lisa and I made grand plans for our boys to be best buds and they are getting a good start. Today Lisa came by and the boys got to hang out for a while. They seemed to enjoy it. Next month, Reed will be joining Berrin in his room at daycare. We can’t wait til they get a little older and can romp around together!

Reed is changing and growing so fast! He weighed 13 pounds, 2 ounces on Dec. 1. On Sunday, he started sleeping in the nursery in his crib. He is doing great! He had been sleeping in the pack and play bassinet in our room. For the past four nights, he has slept all night long (at least 7 hours) in his crib. Last night, he slept until 8:45 a.m. I could hardly believe it.

He also is a noisy sleeper. Check out this video of him sawing logs in his car seat.

Reed did great on the plane ride. He even got a first flight certificate. Carrie was waiting for us at the gate when we arrived to Orlando.

Aunt Carrie had lots of fun taking pictures of Reed. Who can blame her?
