5 months old
Reed is 5 months old today! He’ll be starting to shave pretty soon!
I have been at work for 4 1/2 hours and my dress was totally on backwards. Is this a sign of impending insanity? That is all.
Sometimes I want to freeze time. I don’t want to think about how soon it will be when Reed will struggle to break free of my arms, or will turn away and resist my kisses. Right now, I can smooch his tiny little head to my hearts content with no protests from him, but I know those days will be over before I know it.
At 16 pounds, 9 oz., he’s growing heavier by the minute. He’ll soon be too heavy to tote around all the time. I’ve already decided the days of hauling him around in his car seat are over, he’s just getting too big. At a few days shy of 5 months old, I know he is going to be increasingly more mobile in the months to come. Soon he’ll be crawling, the walking, then running, then driving … all these things allow him to move away from me!
It’s so exciting to see him grow and develop but its also apparent that the more he grows up, the less he is going to need me. I just need to remember that during the days when I am weary and he doesn’t want to sleep but wants to be held and entertained all day long.
I’m falling behind in my blogging. Reed is doing well. He is really developing and changing each day. I am still going almost every day at lunch to visit him at daycare. It makes it much easier to put in a 40 hour week if I can take a peek at him most days.
We got Reed a Baby Einstein activity center and he is really enjoying pushing the buttons to hear a song, making the little toys rattle and being able to sit/stand upright and supported. It’s actually caused him to start noticing Simone a lot more. I catch him smiling at her when she comes close, and he has been “petting” her (read he has been grabbing at her fur). She has given him a couple kisses but we try to make that as infrequent as possible given to where that tongue has surely been.
It is still hard to function at a high level with the general weariness that comes with the territory of being a new parent. I have to inject myself with caffeine lest I be a walking zombie. Chris is frequently seen downing Red Bulls and Five Hour Energy drinks. I hope our bodies will get used to sleeping less at some point. Reed’s giggles and smiles and his overall easy-going personality go a long way in energizing us.
We are settling into a mode where it seems weird to think of life before Reed. He’ll turn 5 months old next week but it seems like he’s been a part of us for forever. And I couldn’t ask for more than that!
We took Reed to his first Predators game on Thursday. It was a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital and they even gave out my book! He really had a great time, even though our team lost in overtime.

Reed had professional pictures taken today by Dean Dixon and they turned out really good! Here are a few of my favorites. They are just the raw files and I have not yet selected any for the photographer to tone, etc. - so they will look even better soon!

There are a ton more (like 700) and I just quickly went through and selected a couple I liked. Will post more later!
Reed and his new giraffe (thanks grandmommy and granddaddy) send you lots of kisses! Reed’s kissies are a little drooly though!

We got the high chair out of its box this weekend. It’s a little big for him, don’t ya think?

Reed has has first ear infection. He is completely miserable, poor little guy. He’s also still got a nasty cough — for over a month now. Gotta love daycare germs.
Reed is 4 months old today! My how time flies!
Reed’s favorite thing to do is “levitate.” His dad loves to hoist him up high in the air and then fly him around. Reed is kind of sitting up now, so he kinda looks like he is riding on an invisible magic carpet!

I am still trying to find his neck under all those jowels! Hahaha!
